KaleX - The Sound Architect
The positive reaction he gained from creating a song for his school's track team was the validation KaleX needed to encourage him to continue on his musical journey. It was at Wolmer’s Boys High School, in his second year, through experimenting with sounds among his peers; that his zeal for music piqued and he made the decision to pursue his love with full force. Since then he has collaborated with the likes of Popcaan, Vybz Kartel and Sizzla, just to name a few.
More popularly known as “The Sound Architect” (a name that stemmed from his experience in obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree from the Caribbean School of Architecture at the University of Technology in Jamaica and working in the architecture field for some time); KaleX is known in the industry to always bring his eclectic style and deliver a newfangled sound out of Jamaica. This has resulted in him creating a new sound in Jamaica dubbed “JAMApiano” – a fusion between Dancehall and the South African genre Amapiano. This evolution resulted in the release of a mixtape called “This is JAMApiano” in December 2023.
His creative endeavors extend further too as he continues to delve deep into the industry as a Producer, Artiste, Songwriter with DJ being recently added to his portfolio. Since the release of the “This is JAMApiano” mixtape he has also delved into the DJ world; playing the remixes he created on that project. This led him to perform as a guest DJ at the popular pre-grammy party, CMYK, in February 2024. He continues to explore his new found talent as a DJ locally with additional international prospects.
The production aspect of his career began in 2012 with a riddim featuring acts such as Runkus, D'East, himself and others. Since then, he has worked with artistes such as Quada, Artikal, Projexx, D'Angel, Ricardo Drue and Sizzla on the Celsius Riddim. Some of his most prominent productions include “My Type” by Popcaan on the Carefree Riddim and “Billions” which was featured as a soundtrack on the Netflix series ‘Top Boy’.
